Tibi Lady Liberty Sweater

Fashion, Luxury, Obsessions, Style

This gorgeous intarsia sweater is a part of Tibi’s New York City inspired pre-fall 2013 collection:

It was the last look of the show, which I loved in its entirety. Brittany Adams of Style.com said it best when she noted the brands commitment to wearable clothing: “Amy Smilovic has been playing her cards right at Tibi for the past several seasons. Having shifted her focus from party frocks to clean basics, her business is now doing better than ever…You don’t need to be fashion mad—or have a superstar’s budget, either—to appreciate these clothes.”

Smilovic said “it’s important to show people how we would wear something,” which I think they did successfully. The minimalist, street styling worked perfectly with the theme of the show, and though I can’t pick favorites, because the entire collection was so perfect, here are three notably great looks:

I love the middle look, not only because of the letterman jacket (how hip,) but because the lines in the sweater were inspired by a subway map…and seriously, who doesn’t love a clever sweater? But the most fabulous were the shoes. There was a strappy and a bootie…two of my favorites:

They are both so now, and chic, and simple. Love them!

I couldn’t resist styling the Lady Liberty sweater myself. If I were a rich girl (cue Gwen Stefani song in your head) this is how I would wear it:

Obsessed TIBI Liberty Sweater

TIBI sweater / DOLCE & GABBANA jeans / CHLOÉ coat / MANOLO BLAHNIK heels / YVES SAINT LAURENT bag

I really love white coats, like this one by DKNY. They allow you to really play with your accessories and colors. This look would not have worked with a different colored coat. The bag and shoes would have looked ridiculous against anything other than white, but because the rest of the outfit is relatively simple (emphasis on relatively,) it works.

The shoes remind me of a cab, but not in an obvious way. If TAXI was written on the side of them then it would be cheesy. But because they’re Manolo’s, also very New York (thank you Carrie Bradshaw,) and have clean lines, they add some fun and a pop of color. The purple YSL adds even more color and is complementary to yellow. I’m obsessed from head to pointed toe.

Chunky Cable Knits

Fashion, Luxury, Reality, Style

When my alarm is going off and I hear the winter wind whistling against my window, the last thing I want to do is get out of my warm, cozy bed and venture into the freezing cold. Rather than sleep in, try layering under warm, chunky cable knits.

A simple white collared shirt would be perfect under this Boy. by Band of Outsiders sweater (and yes, tuck it in.) To add some trendy individuality (oxymoron?) you can attach collar tips like these ones from ASOS:

The modern feel they have works best with the outfit above, mainly because this look is a little bit more relaxed:

ROMWE sweater $80 / RIVER ISLAND jeans $55 / UNTOLD coat $76 / OASAP boots $63 / TOPSHOP bag $68 / WHITE HOUSE BLACK MARKET faux fur scarf $50

This sweater has much more of a lumberjack vibe, obviously made chic by the surrounding pieces. Nonetheless it would look foolish with a collared shirt layered underneath. It could also potentially make the outfit seem like it’s trying too hard to look good. This look is trendy enough with it’s mixed prints (floral and houndstooth,) yet still understated. Always a good combination.

The Lady in Leather and a Crop Top

Fashion, Luxury, Style

Whoever said you can’t be ladylike while baring a little midriff obviously didn’t try hard enough. This outfit is the perfect balance of classic and modern. The small strip of skin definitely ups the cool factor, but the leather is what really gives this look its edge:

Lady Crop Top

OPENING CEREMONY top / TIBI skirt / JIL SANDER coat / VICTORIA BECKHAM bag / CHRISTIAN LOUBOUTIN boots / AGENT PROVOCATEUR gloves

The Christian Louboutin boots, Victoria Beckham purse and Agent Provocateur gloves completely modernize the look. The clean lines, rich leather (very trendy right now) and unexpected color palette bring this look to life.

In the winter the leather boots are a necessity to keep bare skin to a minimum, but in the spring they can easily be swapped out for some heels to transition the outfit. Just make sure they contrast with the propriety of the skirt and top. The trick to looking cool in a matronly skirt is to keep the rest of the outfit relatively hip.

Neon Green with Envy

Fashion, Luxury, Runway, Style

There are so many great trends this season that it’s hard to choose a favorite, but black and white is definitely at the top of the list. Here are three of the best black and white looks from the Spring 2013 runways:

The Alexander Wang look (left) is very androgynous, but nonetheless fabulous. I am obsessed with the Chanel (center.) It’s so grandma-chic and instantly conjures images of the brand. One of my favorite things about Chanel is how true they stay to their style. A trained eye can usually tell if something is Chanel within the first few seconds of looking at it, which is exactly how it should be if your fashion house has been around since 1909. My favorite of the three is the Marc Jacobs sequin maxi dress (right.) It brings three trends, sheer, mixed prints and black and white, together to create an ultra chic gown. (Sidenote: I love that Marc Jacobs used flats on the runway…a man after my own heart.)

Although I love the simplicity of a completely black and white look, I fell in love with this Antonio Berardi neon blazer and it just fit perfectly. Black and White + Neon + Ombré = Sleek & Chic. I love the clean lines of this outfit. Although there is a clear grunge influence, thanks to the moto jeans and the graphic t-shirt, the jacket and accessories pull it together into a streamlined, grown-up grunge ensemble.

Non-platform, ankle strap sandals have been hot for a while now and can dress up a casual look without making it look like you’re trying too hard. The cuff is so fabulous and when I wear a statement piece like this one, I try to keep the rest of the jewelry to a minimum. I think it lets both the outfit and that one piece really sing.

Visual Vacation In Luxury

Fashion, Luxury, Style

Everybody knows that winters in the Northeast aren’t pleasant. It’s bone chilling days like this that make me fantasize about the warm spring ones that are soon to come. Until those April showers bring the May flowers, this outfit will just have to do:

MOSCHINO CHEAP AND CHIC shirt / HAUTE HIPPIE jeans / COMME DES GARÇONS jacket / FREE PEOPLE backpack / ISABEL MARANT sneakers / RAIF hat / LINDA FARROW sunglasses

The semi-sheer, silk top is on trend and has a pretty graphic that instantly stirs thoughts of 76 degree weather. I love the floral pant and graphic shirt combination, which is a play on the trend of mixing prints. The stripes on the letterman jacket add another layer of texture and print giving the outfit plenty of depth. The quirkiness of this look is what makes it so great for me. It almost doesn’t work, but after five minutes of analytical staring I ended up falling in love with it.

Sneaker wedges are another trend I love. My favorites are Giuseppi Zanotti (left) and Isabel Marant (right):

You can find the Giuseppe’s at FarFetch.com and the Isabel Marant’s at AlwaysFashion.com. The great thing about sneaker wedges is you don’t have to have a ton of money to buy a good looking pair. These are two of my less expensive favorites:

budget sneaker wedges

The black and white are by Steve Madden and cost $150 and the green pair is by Jeffrey Campbell and is on sale for $115. The perfect in between option is by Ash. I love the design of their shoes. They are very streamlined and more reminiscent of an actual heel than most of the other sneaker wedges I’ve seen:
