Denim Shirts

A good denim shirt can do wonders for your style. It can transform an outfit from uptight to urban within seconds (if worn correctly.) It can send the message that you just don’t give a f*ck and looks a lot cooler than a cardigan. But most importantly, it’s versatile.  A button down denim shirt can last you years if treated kindly.

Free People is selling a vintage Wrangler denim shirt that would be a great addition to any wardrobe:

Here’s an example of how a denim shirt can elevate a look:

wildfox-tank-and-denim-shirt

WILDFOX tank / SEVEN jeans / BOY. BY BAND OF OUTSIDERS chambray shirt / REPOTTO shoes / PRADA bag / EDDIE BORGO ring / RAY-BAN sunglasses

Although the outfit can stand on its own, it’s nice to have a little something to throw on if you get cold.  A cardigan would not fit with the rest of the ensemble and a jacket would be too heavy.  The denim shirt is light enough for this outfit to transition into summer.

Here’s a different take on the denim shirt look:

SEE BY CHLOÈ top / J BRAND shorts / JEFFREY CAMPBELL booties / FRENCH CONNECTION clutch / REED KRAKOFF cuff / MULBERRY bracelet / THE ROW sunglasses / KATE SPADE earrings

Subtract some buttons, add some ruffles and you end up with a completely different look with just as much of an edge.  The ruffles add a girly touch while the black, brass and heavy booties maintain a grungy vibe.  The wooden bag is unexpected and adds some softness to an otherwise hard outfit.

This outfit has more of a girly feel:

RALPH LAUREN top / AUSTIQUE shorts / MOTO denim shirt / MODERN VINTAGE booties / MIU MIU clutch / VAN DER STRAETEN earrings / WILDFOX rings

The silk tie-dye shorts are on trend and add some feminine flair to the menswear inspired denim shirt and booties.  The simple white top keeps the outfit looking clean rather than overdone.

Here is a cheaper version of the denim look for fashionistas on a budget:

OBEY tank $75MONKI shorts $31JEFFREY CAMPBELL booties $350URBAN EXPRESSIONS clutch $30HOT TOPIC bracelet $13/ SIDNEY MICHAELS earrings $24PAYLESS ring $1080S PURPLE sunlgasses $12

I know…it’s just a different version of the same Jeffrey Campbell bootie…but I am a firm believer that one should invest in their shoes.  Cheap shoes are easy to spot and hurt your feet, so my advice would be to save up for a quality pair of shoes rather than a $200 pair of jeans.  And these shoes really do complete the look.  Thank you Jeffrey Campbell…we all love the Lita.

Chanel Two Ways

I see this as a wearable version of Carrie Bradshaw’s vintage Dior t-shirt look from Sex and the City 2.  It’s a perfect way to dress up a graphic tee while still maintaining some sense of sophistication.

Last night in her interview with Jean Paul GaultierLady Gaga said that she likes to mix styles when she dresses…maybe this would be Gaga ready-to-wear?

Obsessed: D&G’s Star-filled Runway

I know, I know…more Dolce. I just can’t help it, I love this print! It’s been seen on so many celebrities.  My favorite is Kim Kardashian in her Harper’s Bazaar shoot:

I also LOVE this skirt, dress and top (the skirt on Alessandra Ambrosio is effing fierce too!) :

Here’s a couple of ways to get some stars in your wardrobe without having celebrity stylist connections:

1. ASOS PETITE Exclusive Star Print Peg Pants $43

2. TopShop Star Print Bandeau Playsuit $55

3. Wildfox Couture Seeing Stars Lennon Sweater $229

4. Markus Lupfer Star Mia Top on sale for $103 at ASOS

Yes, that’s Ashley Tisdale in 3.  I love how it reads “I’m poor,” yet is the most expensive of the bunch. How perfectly ironic.

Wide Leg Pants in Luxury

I don’t know about all of you, but I can’t stop watching reruns of That 70s Show. Not only is it hysterical, but it’s bound to be on at least one channel at all times. Another reason to watch is to see what Jackie Burkhart is wearing. She rocks a wide leg pant like nobody’s business. (Thanks for the inspiration Mila.)

I think a cool way to wear the wide leg pant is to pair it with a grungy t-shirt, cropped or tucked in.

1. Wildfox Je t’Aime Tee $64

2. Halston HeritageHigh Waisted Wide Leg Pants $345

3. Tory Burch McLane Hobo $475

4. Giuseppe Zanotti Haircalf Bold Heel Booties $995

5. JJ Winters Small Fringe Bag $165

6. Elizabeth and James Strut Wedge Platform Sandals $275

7. Kenneth Jay Lane Snake Bracelet $374

8. Kenneth Jay Lane Elephant Bracelet $150

9. Noir Jewelry Single Pyramid Bangle $88

10. Marc by Marc Jacobs Turnlock Katie Bracelet $98

Mixing things that seem like they don’t belong together is one of my favorite things to do. Pairing these beautiful pants with a t-shirt and bold accessories is unexpected and looks really cool.

I’m head over heels (pun intended) for the Giuseppe Zanotti booties. They look much better on an actual foot:
