Faux Fur in Luxury

If you ask me fur will always be in. It’s luxe, sexy, adds a level of texture that no other material can and covers a plethora of flaws. But there is one thing about fur that I’m not a fan of. That little detail about killing animals so that we can parade around in their pelts…not so sexy. So what’s a fashionista to do, not wear fur? How absurd. But you should try to go faux.

I’ve used fur in some outfits before [Alexander Wang puffer jacketpowder blue fur by The RowGucci fur booties] and faux fur has been featured on Crave as recently as yesterday. So why wear fur sometimes and others wear faux? There is no definite answer and it really depends on your personal beliefs. My belief is that sometimes a fur coat is just so amazing that you must have it on your body, but it’s important to try to substitute with faux as much as possible. That doesn’t mean it has to look cheap. There are many high quality faux furs out right now. Like this one by Meadham Kirchhoff:

The colors and pattern are so playful and work perfectly with the striped denim. (Another example of mixing prints.)  On the runway though, they styled the faux furs a little…eccentrically for my taste:

These are some patterns that I personally would never pair together, but the coats are still amazing and can stand all on their own:

Burberry Trench Two Ways

love trench coats.  This black trimmed Burberry trench puts a slight twist on a classic item while still keeping it timeless and classic.  A trench coat is one of those fabulous pieces that you can dress up or down.  The black piping on this one makes it especially easy to dress up.

The more casual outfit has another one of my favorite items: riding boots.  These Gucci ones are fab and will last you forever.  The rest of the outfit is relatively inexpensive, but the quality pair of boots and the trench elevate the ensemble and really make it sing.

The red Versace dress doesn’t need much elevating…it’s pretty breathtaking all on its own, but great accessories never hurt.  The white point-toe pumps are trendy and add more sophistication to the dress rather than taking it away.  The clutch adds a pop of excitement with a pattern to an otherwise solid-hued outfit.  Add the trench and you’re ready for a night on the town, rain or shine.

Fur Booties and Cropped Pants

I love the whimsical feel of this shirt.  It works fabulously with the sunglasses.  The mustard color paired with the plum of the bag is great and plays off of the plum in the print of the shirt.

I love how cropped pants look with booties.  The fur and the color scheme keep the outfit looking fall/winter, even though the pants could look more spring/summer.  Pair this with a black scarf and you’re set for the November chills to come.

Elle Magazine Loves Leather Too!

Back in August I posted about how much I love leather, and also wrote about how it can be done on a budget.  I just came across this Elle.com article about how hot leather is on the red carpets and fall runways.

I love all three of the celebrity looks that Elle chose to show:

Blake Lively in Gucci

Zoe Saldana in Valentino

Elizabeth Banks in J.Mendel

Just be careful because leather can look costumey when not done properly.  Some say AnnaLynne McCord looked amazing at the Shutter Island premier, but I think the neck was a little too much.

I’m really feeling the wide leg, but I just don’t like this neckline in leather…she looks like a super-chic dominatrix.

Little Blue Dress in Luxury

I loved Kourtney Kardashian‘s blue dress at the Teen Choice Awards. She wore a Blaque Label Sweetheart Chiffon Dress, and didn’t she look fab?

Here’s an example of how to wear the new LBD: the Little Blue Dress:

1. TIBI Draped Dress $297

2. Gucci 1973 Shoulder Bag $795

3. LANA Blake Bar Earrings $780

4. Pamela Love 7 Crystal Cuff $495

5. Fiona Paxton Dakotah Ring $160

6. Theyskens’ Theory Patent-Leather Wedges $465

Olivier Theyskens was asked to design a collection for Theory and these amazing wedges (6.) were born. I’m obsessed with all of them but the patent-leather and suede ombré’s have to be my favorite…I mean, look at these!
Speechless……..The ankle straps are even removable:
In the words of my favorite stylist…I die.  (For those of you who don’t get this reference…please watch The Rachel Zoe Project.  The new season starts September 6th.  Do yourself a favor and tune in.)  It’s bananas.
Come back tomorrow for how to wear the little blue dress in reality!
